9 January. The Children's Musical School No. 10 was transformed into the Tsarskoye Selo Gymnasium of Arts, which was named after Anna Akhmatova on 15 May 2000. Since 1977 Yury Mikhaylovich Fedorenko, a graduate of Leningrad Conservatoire, Honoured Worker of Culture, has been being the permanent director of the gymnasium.
February. A new state institution of culture - the Museum of Modern Art "Tsarskoye Selo Collection" - was opened. A.M. Nekrasov was the director of the museum.
April. The President of the USA Bill Clinton visited the State Museum-Reserve "Tsarskoye Selo".
June. Fyedor Yakovlevich Ovechkin, a participant of the town defence as a soldier of the Infantry Division No. 237 in 1941 and a participant of the liberation of the town as the Division Commissar of the Infantry Division No. 56, an active participant of the programme of the patriotical education of the town youth, was conferred the title "Honorary Citizen of Pushkin Town".
27 July. The First Cadet Corps of the Federal Frontier Service of the Russian Fedration named after Hero of the USSR Army General V.A. Matrosov was founded according to the decree of the Russian Federation. The Corps was placed in the Cavalier House and service constructions of the Vladimir's (Reserve) Palace. Major-General Eduard Mikhaylovich Filippov has been being the Head of Corps.
A group of companies "Stroysvet", one of the biggest companies building dwelling houses in the Pushkin District, was organized. The director-general of the company was Aleksandr Valentinovich Krashchuk. In 2005 the company "Stroysvet" was the initiator of the re-creating the Cathedral of St. Catherine.
Pushkin Town was conferred the title "The Best Town among Small Towns of Russia" as the result of the All- Russian Competition.
